Bull Shoals Lake Fishing Report   March 22nd 2008

We had 6 inches of rain on Tuesday March 18th. The whole area got anywhere from 4 to 12 inches. It was a tremendous rain. Yes, it has changed the lake and the fishing completely. The lake has risen 13 feet since Tuesday and is sitting at 672 as of right now. Projected levels are another 3 feet by April 6th. This projection is provided we don't get anymore rain. So this could change. Water temperature is still in the mid 40's in most places. There are some back of creeks that have low 50's. Visibility is non existent on most places in the lake. It looks like chocolate milk. I have been here 35 years and only see it like this 3 other times. It will take some time to clear back up but it will eventually.

This water color has completely changed the fishing also. I haven't seen many fish caught this week. The fish still have to eat so I know they will bite something. The trick is to find out what and where right now. These fish are use to sight eating. With the water like chocolate milk, its like turning the lights off on them. So, they have to adjust and feel for vibrations more to eat instead of watching for things to eat. As soon as the lake clears up a little fishing should get better. I have seen very few fish in the last 6 days caught on the lake. The lake continues to clear up a little more every day. The only pattern that has been reported to me is white grubs back in the coves and creeks in shallow water. With the lake up there is a tremendous amount of brush along the shore line.

I would expect the catching to pick up in the next few days. I will change this as soon as it does. Until then I have no other patterns or fishing to report.

The White River fishing for rainbow and brown trout is fantastic still. They have been running one to two generators for 24 hours. I would expect this pattern to stay the same until the flooding stops in eastern and southern Arkansas. As soon as this does then I would the water level to increase in the river to try to lower the lake.

wednesday March 26-  We have had a few bass and white bass caught today. The lake is starting to clear up a little. Water temp has not increased any and is still in the upper 40's to lower 50's depending on where you are. One of the fishing customers with GUIDE JACKIE DUE caught and released a 17 lb brown on the river today. There is a picture on our picture page!!!!!!!!!!!!!
